Montreal 200 Ends One Minute Too Early for Spirit of Daytona Racing

(Montreal, Que)—Aug 1-A promising race outing ended just half a kilometer short on Friday night for Marc Antoine Camirand and Guy Cosmo in the V8 Porsche-powered Coyote in the Montreal 200 as the team came up just an ounce or two short on fuel. The No. 09 came to a halt just shy of the pit lane entrance on the race’s final lap, and the team was forced to accept a 16th place finish, which did not reflect the pace that Camirand and Cosmo showed all weekend.

“It was very disappointing to not be able to take the checkered flag, but sometimes that is racing and we were pushing everything we could there but it just didn’t finish the way we hoped,” said a disappointed Camirand following the race. “It was a fantastic opportunity for me to race in front of my home crowd and to do it in a Daytona Prototype was really enjoyable. We struggled with grip this weekend but if we made the end on fuel we could have had a good result. But the team did a great job once again this weekend, and now we are all looking forward to racing at the Glen.”

The Montreal event was the first race North of the border for the V8 Porsche-powered Coyote. A second Coyote entry finished the race a scant .064-seconds behind the race winner, further confirming the potential for the Coyote platform.

“We aren’t in a points race or anything so it was a little bit of a gamble we took to make it to the end, and obviously we came up just a little bit short but sometimes you have to go for it,” said team owner Troy Flis. “We’ve shown that this car can qualify and race well, and now we’d just like to score a result that really shows that. We were hoping we could have had Marc score well on his home track, but it just didn’t work out that way. But the guys did a great job and now we’re excited to see how we go on the short course at the Glen.”

Spirit of Daytona Racing will head south for a second consecutive Friday night race and the Crown Royal 200, the first Daytona Prototype-only race of the Rolex Sports Car Series season.
