2007 Made three KONI Challenge podium appearances running a limited schedule, including bolstering his win tally in the category with a win at Iowa. Was also called to duty by both Doran Racing and Brumos in Rolex Sports Car Series competition and returned the favor with a pair of top-tens before joining Spirit of Daytona to be a part of the development team for the new Porsche-powered FABCAR.

McDowell joined 2000 NASCAR Cup champion Bobby Labonte, Michael Valiante and team owner Rob Finlay in the No. 19 Finlay Motorsports Ford Crawford in the Rolex 24 At Daytona.

2006 Finished eighth in the final Daytona Prototype driver standings with 11 top-10 finishes. Scored first-ever qualifying race victory at Virginia.
